Theme of the week: Apples
After a rocky start to our week, Noo managed to pull himself together and enjoy the work that was laid out for him. His reading is coming along nicely and, as always, his love for maths is shining through.
He really doesn’t enjoy his writing assignments, can you tell 8)
Our creative writing project this week is “I like/dislike apples”.
“I don’t like apples because they make my tummy ill”
Our science experiment on Tuesday was all about the touch sense. He had to put one had in warm water and the other in cold, then, after a few minutes, but both hands in the cold water and see what the difference was. He told me the hand that had come out of the warm water was very cold and the cold water hand didn’t feel any different.
Now what do you think is going through his mind right now *giggle*
We also covered the apple life cycle. Noo really enjoyed this part of our day and I could see the light go on after I explained it. Its wonderful to watch them learn.
Doing some more maths. This is the GR1-2 Boost Maths Gr 1-2 Book 2. He loves it, esp since his reward for finishing a unit is the Game associated with the lesson. This book and CD combo rock!!!
Wednesday as part of our apple theme, we made jelly (jello) covered Apples. Noo had a ton of fun making these, though he suddenly isn’t a huge fan of apples he did, sort of, enjoy the fun snack
Fun Apple Snack
Ingredients:
2 Cored, pealed and sliced apples, we used crispy red apples today
1 pack flavoured Jelly (jello)
1 Zip lock bag
Method:
Put the jelly in the zip lock bag
Place the apple slices into the jelly and seal the bag
Let your child shake the bag, turning it from side to side and upside down until the apple slices are coated
When this is finished, pen the bag and let your child take the coated slices out and put them in a bowl.
They are now ready to eat.
This snack recipe was sourced from EHow
Thursday was a normal day for lessons and Friday we took off. We are in the process of making a paper mache apple pencil holder. I’ll post pics and an update on that as soon as that has been completed
