As part of our Port Elizabeth holiday, we decided to make it a holiday of firsts, and take the kids to their first visit to Jefferysbay. We had been told that Jeffreysbay is the best place to go shell searching and since we hadn’t found many shells on the beaches in Port Elizabeth, what better excuse to go to Jeffreys bay.
We spent the morning searching for shells. We decided to stop at the first beach sign we saw. This was the perfect stop. The beach was covered in shells, so much so that I thought it was dirty with pollution!
This beach’s sand was coarse and unpleasant to walk on without shoes on. It wasn’t fine beach sand at all. I was amazed at all the pieces of shells I could distinguish.
Turns out, Papa is quite the pro at finding the most beautiful shells. He found the most shells that day and put the rest of us to shame.
The kids loved playing on the rocks and in the rock pools while Papa was searching for shells. I eventually found a spot to sit and relax while he enjoyed himself.
My legs were covered in salt from the spray of the waves breaking on the rocks. I’ve never seen that.
We decided to have lunch at a little beach front restaurant called Jbay Beach Break Restaurant. They food really was amazing!
I had bought belly boards for Koko and Fifi the day before for them to use in the ocean and this trip to Jeffreysbay was perfect for that. Jeffreysbay is rated one of the top surfing destinations in the world. I didn’t get any pictures of the children on their belly boards, since we were all in the ocean together and taking photos wasn’t something we even thought of. This really was the best day we had together on this holiday.
The kids slept all the way back to Port Elizabeth. They were exhausted and all played out.
Don’t forget to pop in tomorrow to read all about our trip to the SAAF Museam and our dolphin watching!
