Unicorn Minus One Coverall Game from Recipe for Teaching
Unicorn Resources
For this game, I had my students roll the dot cube. They used the unicorn counters to count out that many unicorns on their unicorn ten frame. Since this is a minus one game, they then took away one unicorn from the ten frame. Some of my students were able to determine one less without counting the leftover unicorn counters and some counted the leftover unicorns. I like to hold my students accountable for their math work by having them say the subtraction equation to the partner they are working with. For example, in the picture below, they rolled a 6 and took away 1. They would tell their friend, “6-1=5.” After students determined what “minus one” was, they covered that number on their game board with a unicorn eraser. Students continued this process on each partner’s turn. The goal of the game is to cover all of the numbers on the game board. After students have learned this game and are familiar with it, this game would make a great addition to a math station.

Freebie Friday ~ Dora the Explorer Resources

This post may contain affiliate links which help support my family. Thank you for stopping by.

Dora the Explorer Resources

Fifi has decided to start learning Spanish and the first thing that came to mind was Dora the Explorer. Here you can find some of the freebies I have collected.

The series centers around Dora, a seven-year-old Latina girl, with a love of embarking on quests related to an activity that she wants to partake of or a place that she wants to go to, accompanied by her talking purple backpack and anthropomorphic monkey companion named Boots (named for his beloved pair of red boots). Each episode is based around a series of cyclical events that occur along the way during Dora’s travels, along with obstacles that she and Boots are forced to overcome or puzzles that they have to solve (with “assistance” from the viewing audience) relating to riddles, the Spanish language, or counting. Common rituals may involve Dora’s encounters with Swiper, a bipedal, anthropomorphic masked thieving fox whose theft of the possessions of others must be prevented through fourth wall-breaking interaction with the viewer. To stop Swiper, Dora must say “Swiper no swiping” three times. However, on occasions where Swiper steals the belongings of other people, the viewer is presented with the challenge of helping Boots and Dora locate the stolen items.

Dental health is important, no matter how old you are. Getting your child into the habit of brushing their teeth at least twice a day from young is key. Here are a few fun activities to reinforce brushing their teeth.

Dental Health Resources from Homeschool Giveaways
Dental Health Resources
February is Children’s Dental Health Month. I know it’s not unusual for kids to hate brushing their teeth. And my kids are no exception, besides the 3 year old, but I think she just likes the bubble gum flavored safe toothpaste. So this year we are going to spend most of February learning how to better brush our teeth and why it’s so important.

Dental Health Resources and a FREEBIE from Teacher 123
Dental Health Resources
February is Dental Health Month. This month is a great time to invite your local dentist to visit your class. Many of them will even bring a little goodie bag for your students.
Do your students ever lose their teeth at school and then can’t find their tooth when it’s time to go home? It can create quite a commotion at dismissal time. I found these little tooth treasure boxes and tooth necklaces help solve this problem. Quite a few come with each order, so you may want to ask a teammate to split the order with you.
