Freebie Friday ~ 5 Senses Resources

In light of the current lock down situation here in South Africa, I have decided to revive my Freebie Friday series. This week I’ve decided to share some 5 senses resources. These are great to include in science lessons without the children even knowing they are learning. The experiments are some of my favourites to do with younger children.

My Five Senses Sorting Cards from The STEM Laboratory

Teaching little ones about their five senses is so much fun. They love thinking about all of the things they can touch, see, taste, smell, and hear.

After having reviewed each of the five senses individually through reading about them and doing activities (you can find all those posts here), I had my kids do a five senses sorting activity.

My 5 Senses Game from iSL Collective
Freebie Friday ~ 5 Senses Resources
This is a very simple game with a dice and cards. Place all the cards face down. Children throw the dice in turns. They call out the part of the body they get. Then they they pick up a card and make a sentence with can or can’t and the corresponding sense. Eg: (Dice: Nose. Card: Flowers.) They should say: “Nose. I can smell flowers”. In that case, they get the card. But if when throwing the dice, they get “ear”, the sentence should be: “I can’t hear flowers”. In that case, they have to leave the card on the table face down again. The student who gets more cards wins. (“My 5 senses” picture on the dice is like a wild card, they can choose the part of the body they want) You can also ask your students to describe the pictures using: soft, hard, wet, hot and cold.
