Gauteng Dance Festival
Fifi did her first ever solo at the Acrobatics Festival this year. OH. MY. GOSH! I didn’t know my little girl’s strength lay in Acro! She was amazing. The adjudicator said that she will go far in the industry. I was NOT expecting that.
Her dance was near perfect. She said when she started, she almost danced her modern solo because she was so nervous! She did such a beautiful job keeping calm on stage and doing what was expected of her.
She decided to wear her modern solo biketard for her acro solo. It was a perfect fit for her music (the instrumental version of “My Girl” by The Temptations) and she just shined on stage. I, once again, cried the entire dance. I’m always so emotional when the girls dance and watching Fifi, an introvert, just shine in front of a crowd, makes my heart sing.
The photographer loves taking photos of Fifi in this pose, we have a similar one with her in the modern pictures. The same photographer worked at the Gauteng Dance Festival too and he remembered Pixie!
Fifi took 1st place in her age group (7 year olds) and will be dancing in the Novice section next year. She couldn’t believe she won, she was shell shocked when she realised they had called her competitor number as the first place winner. I couldn’t be prouder!
As if winning first place wasn’t awesome, she also won the “Promising Dancer” award (with a yellow smiley face button)! We couldn’t believe how the adjudicator raved about her performance during the prize giving. She said that Fifi would go far in the industry and that she is one to keep an eye on. No pressure there…. *gulp*
This year, my brother-in-law’s daughters started acro at the studio. Cousin KK is a level up from Fifi and they did their group dance not long before Fifi did her solo. Cousin Sammy dances with Pixie.
KK’s class danced to “Lemon Tree” by the Beetles and got a 2nd for their effort. It was lovely to have family there and support both girls in their first festival milestones.
A HUGE thank you to Jackie McGinn from J&C Dance Creations for all the countless hours you have put into our girls and for helping them work towards their full potential.
