Acrobatics Festival

Pixie took part in her first Acrobatics festival and did beautifully. She performed the Popcorn group dance with the other 5 year olds in her class and came second. She took joint third for her solo. She dazzled us with her smile and absolute cuteness on stage.

My dear friend Carmyn, from Posh Kaity Dance, made Pixie’s Solo costume. I ordered the hot pants for her to wear with the leotard afterward. She has asked me to have a skirt and a pair of 3/4 leggings made for her too. Leotards are great and can be used a dozen different ways.

She looked so adorable. I can’t believe how much this little girl loves to be on stage. She dazzled up there and you couldn’t get her to stop grinning if you tried! She just LOVES being on stage and adores being the centre of attention. This little face had us all in awe during her performances.

With the Acrobatics Festival in full swing over the course of October, Fifi finally had the opportunity to perform her group dance, Bare Necessities and the girls did EXTREMELY well.

They got an A+ and a HUGE trophy. We could, unfortunately, not be at the Adjudication.
Acrobatics Festival
These girls have been working really hard all year and their hard work panned out beautifully today. Their lifts were near perfect and they had the audience in awe. It was a sight to see. I’m thrilled and amazed at how far Fifi has come in the last year and I couldn’t be happier that she is doing so well.

Fifi did her first ever solo at the Acrobatics Festival this year. OH. MY. GOSH! I didn’t know my little girl’s strength lay in Acro! She was amazing. The adjudicator said that she will go far in the industry. I was NOT expecting that.
Acrobatics Festival
Her dance was near perfect. She said when she started, she almost danced her modern solo because she was so nervous! She did such a beautiful job keeping calm on stage and doing what was expected of her.
Acrobatics Festival
She decided to wear her modern solo biketard for her acro solo. It was a perfect fit for her music (the instrumental version of “My Girl” by The Temptations) and she just shined on stage. I, once again, cried the entire dance. I’m always so emotional when the girls dance and watching Fifi, an introvert, just shine in front of a crowd, makes my heart sing.
Acrobatics Festival
The photographer loves taking photos of Fifi in this pose, we have a similar one with her in the modern pictures. The same photographer worked at the Gauteng Dance Festival too and he remembered Pixie!
Acrobatics Festival
Fifi took 1st place in her age group (7 year olds) and will be dancing in the Novice section next year. She couldn’t believe she won, she was shell shocked when she realised they had called her competitor number as the first place winner. I couldn’t be prouder!
Acrobatics Festival
As if winning first place wasn’t awesome, she also won the “Promising Dancer” award (with a yellow smiley face button)! We couldn’t believe how the adjudicator raved about her performance during the prize giving. She said that Fifi would go far in the industry and that she is one to keep an eye on. No pressure there…. *gulp*

This year, my brother-in-law’s daughters started acro at the studio. Cousin KK is a level up from Fifi and they did their group dance not long before Fifi did her solo. Cousin Sammy dances with Pixie.

KK’s class danced to “Lemon Tree” by the Beetles and got a 2nd for their effort. It was lovely to have family there and support both girls in their first festival milestones.

Pixie did her very first solo at the Gauteng Dance Festival and got an A for her effort. She danced beautifully and had me in tears, again, at her poise on the stage. She absolutely LOVED being up there, centre of attention and dancing her heart out.

Her hair didn’t take nearly as long this time. She opted to have two little braids on the top of her head (under the bow clips) and a curly pony tail. She looked adorable. She insisted on having gems on her face again, in Fifi’s favourite colour, blue. Papa Steve missed her solo by a whole 2 minutes and was bummed that he didn’t get to see her alone on stage. Thankfully, all the dances are recorded, so he will be able to see her dance her solo once we receive the DVD from the production company in December.

Backstage Pose

Watching these little 4 and 5 year olds dance their very first solos was such a pleasure. We forget that they also want to be on stage, like their older sisters. All three girls have sisters who dance, Z’s twin sisters dance with Fifi and E’s sister is 1 class up from Fifi. What great role models these little girls have in their sisters!

I really couldn’t be more proud of Pixie. She was a little unsure of herself in the beginning, continuously keeping an eye on her teacher in the wings and once she settled, she ROCKED that stage with her talent and just plain cuteness. I can’t wait to see her up there next year and watch her progress as she gets older. It has been such an honour to watch her grow into this precious little girl.

Fifi and her Grade 3 Modern Class danced Funky Town (not pictured) and When She Loved Me again at the Gauteng Dance Festival. You can read all about their Roodepoort Dance Festival dances HERE. They received an for A+ Funky Town and A++ for When She loved Me. They took first place trophies for both dances, again…

These girls are exceptionally talented and their teacher has harnessed their individual strengths and honed their group work into an art. Watching these girls develop into beautifully talented dances has always been an honour. I am looking forward to watching these girls grow into even more talented young dancers. They are exceeding our expectations already.

Fifi danced her solo, Try, and received a B+ for her efforts. This was her first individually choreographed solo and she did a great job. She will be dancing as a Novice again next year and will be moving up into the Amateur section once she receives an A (or higher). She is determined to move up to Amateur after next years festivals.

She has gone from strength to strength over the last year and we are oh so proud of her accomplishments.

I finally got professional portraits taken of Fifi for When She Loved Me and Try (her solo) since they only took action shots at the Roodepoort Festival.

Gauteng Dance Festival

Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the whole group in one photo, the rest of the girls were getting ready for their next dances.

Gauteng Dance Festival

Who can resist having their photo taken with the much deserved trophy?

What an honour it is to have this little girl be all mine.

Pixie’s dream of dancing on stage finally came to pass at the Gauteng Dance Festival. Her group danced to the song “Sugar Pie” by The Temptations. They were just too adorable for words! The girls did exceptionally well and received an A for their interpretation of the song. They got an A for their efforts.

K, E, Pixie, Z and A

Getting Pixie’s hair done for the dance took over 2 hours of curling with the curling iron and rolling into curlers. I was worried that she was going to make putting makeup on her rather difficult, but she was a star. She just loved getting her face done for the first time and getting her very own gemstones in the colour of her tutu.

I was in tears, again, while they were dancing. They had the audience captivated and some of our fellow Dance Studio Moms in tears too. It was so rewarding watching them dance so beautifully (and without the teachers’ help) at their first festival.

Pixie just LOVES to dance and couldn’t wait to get up there. I don’t think she has a nervous bone in her body. K led the group of dances on the stage and they followed her lead beautifully. I’m so in awe of their poise on that stage, have I mentioned that? Watching those little 5 year olds (and a 6 year old) on that stage was something I’ve been looking forward to all year. Pixie can’t wait for the Acrobatics festival now!

She couldn’t wait to get her photo taken by the photographer so she can also start a Dance Scrapbook. I still can’t believe how far she has come in 2 years. She started dancing in April 2015, when she was just 3, and just blows me away with her dedication and love for dancing and her amazing teachers.
