Pixie did her very first solo at the Gauteng Dance Festival and got an A for her effort. She danced beautifully and had me in tears, again, at her poise on the stage. She absolutely LOVED being up there, centre of attention and dancing her heart out.

Her hair didn’t take nearly as long this time. She opted to have two little braids on the top of her head (under the bow clips) and a curly pony tail. She looked adorable. She insisted on having gems on her face again, in Fifi’s favourite colour, blue. Papa Steve missed her solo by a whole 2 minutes and was bummed that he didn’t get to see her alone on stage. Thankfully, all the dances are recorded, so he will be able to see her dance her solo once we receive the DVD from the production company in December.

Backstage Pose

Watching these little 4 and 5 year olds dance their very first solos was such a pleasure. We forget that they also want to be on stage, like their older sisters. All three girls have sisters who dance, Z’s twin sisters dance with Fifi and E’s sister is 1 class up from Fifi. What great role models these little girls have in their sisters!

I really couldn’t be more proud of Pixie. She was a little unsure of herself in the beginning, continuously keeping an eye on her teacher in the wings and once she settled, she ROCKED that stage with her talent and just plain cuteness. I can’t wait to see her up there next year and watch her progress as she gets older. It has been such an honour to watch her grow into this precious little girl.

Fifi and her Grade 3 Modern Class danced Funky Town (not pictured) and When She Loved Me again at the Gauteng Dance Festival. You can read all about their Roodepoort Dance Festival dances HERE. They received an for A+ Funky Town and A++ for When She loved Me. They took first place trophies for both dances, again…

These girls are exceptionally talented and their teacher has harnessed their individual strengths and honed their group work into an art. Watching these girls develop into beautifully talented dances has always been an honour. I am looking forward to watching these girls grow into even more talented young dancers. They are exceeding our expectations already.

Fifi danced her solo, Try, and received a B+ for her efforts. This was her first individually choreographed solo and she did a great job. She will be dancing as a Novice again next year and will be moving up into the Amateur section once she receives an A (or higher). She is determined to move up to Amateur after next years festivals.

She has gone from strength to strength over the last year and we are oh so proud of her accomplishments.

I finally got professional portraits taken of Fifi for When She Loved Me and Try (her solo) since they only took action shots at the Roodepoort Festival.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the whole group in one photo, the rest of the girls were getting ready for their next dances.

Who can resist having their photo taken with the much deserved trophy?

What an honour it is to have this little girl be all mine.

Pixie’s dream of dancing on stage finally came to pass at the Gauteng Dance Festival. Her group danced to the song “Sugar Pie” by The Temptations. They were just too adorable for words! The girls did exceptionally well and received an A for their interpretation of the song. They got an A for their efforts.

Getting Pixie’s hair done for the dance took over 2 hours of curling with the curling iron and rolling into curlers. I was worried that she was going to make putting makeup on her rather difficult, but she was a star. She just loved getting her face done for the first time and getting her very own gemstones in the colour of her tutu.

I was in tears, again, while they were dancing. They had the audience captivated and some of our fellow Dance Studio Moms in tears too. It was so rewarding watching them dance so beautifully (and without the teachers’ help) at their first festival.

Pixie just LOVES to dance and couldn’t wait to get up there. I don’t think she has a nervous bone in her body. K led the group of dances on the stage and they followed her lead beautifully. I’m so in awe of their poise on that stage, have I mentioned that? Watching those little 5 year olds (and a 6 year old) on that stage was something I’ve been looking forward to all year. Pixie can’t wait for the Acrobatics festival now!

She couldn’t wait to get her photo taken by the photographer so she can also start a Dance Scrapbook. I still can’t believe how far she has come in 2 years. She started dancing in April 2015, when she was just 3, and just blows me away with her dedication and love for dancing and her amazing teachers.

Roodepoort Dance Festival

Fifi danced her first solo at the Roodepoort Dance Festival last week and BOY am I proud! Last year she did a class dance at the Gauteng Dance Festival on a school stage, THIS year she got to dance, alone, on a HUGE theatre stage.

Roodepoort Dance Festival

Fifi and her friends backstage awaiting the big moment!

I was a nervous wreck! She was a nervous wreck! Her dance teacher was amazing and settled her down beautifully. The teachers have been so supportive and have brought the best out of all our girls.
Roodepoort Dance Festival
Once she was on stage and saw me (I sat very close to the front) I saw her visibly relax. She danced beautifully. I’m pretty sure I burst with pride as she was dancing her heart out and thoroughly enjoying herself on stage.
Roodepoort Dance Festival
I’m always amazing at how this little introvert just blossoms on stage. She is a meek and mild little girl in public and a force to be reckoned with on stage.
Roodepoort Dance Festival
I am so proud of this blossoming little dancer. She loves it and has decided to start Contemporary Dancing next year. I am so glad that she has found her passion. I see many, many, dance competitions and recitals in our future!
Roodepoort Dance Festival
Fifi has worked really hard on this dance the whole year and her dedication has paid off. She took a second place and I am thrilled with her performance.
Roodepoort Dance Festival
She danced to the song, Try, by Patrick Brasca featuring Jay Chou, from Kung Fu Panda 3. She initially wanted a tiger print costume, but we realised that it wouldn’t work on stage and she ended up choosing these gorgeous fabrics for her costume. I love the colours and she just sparkled under the lights.

She dances Try again at the Gauteng Festival, I’m looking forward to her performance.

Roodepoort Dance Festival

Roodepoort Dance Festival

We are slap bang in the middle of Modern Dance Festivals and Fifi is doing exceptionally well. I am so proud of her. Her 2 groups took first place at the Roodepoort Dance Festival last week and her first ever solo took a second.

We are thrilled with the results again this year. Her groups danced in 2 age group sections, Under 8 AND Under 10. Fifi is 7,5 years old.

When She Loved Me was danced in the 8 and Under section and brought most of the audience to tears. It was SO beautifully danced. The girls had their expressions perfect for the sad music and told the story beautifully. The Adjudicators clearly loved this performance just as much as the audience. I was so glad that I’d thought to put a pack of tissues in my bag, they came in handy for all the momma’s watching their beautiful little girls interpreting this song.

Anxiously awaiting for their turn on stage.

Guess who spotted Momma in the audience?

Roodepoort Dance Festival

The Adjudicator’s comments on the report. We couldn’t be more proud of this beautifully talented group of little girls.

Funky Town was their second group dance and fell under the Under 10 section. They won their section with this dance last year as well. They dance groups 2 years in a row, with technical changes added to the dance the following year. This is the last year they are dancing Funky Town. This dance always gets the audience’s attention and everyone loves this dance! I’m sad to see this dance go. The girls love that they are, so far, unbeaten at Roodepoort in their groups.

Hamming it up for the camera backstage. These girls are old pros and LOVE performing this dance.

Roodepoort Dance Festival

She really does enjoy this dance. “It’s so much fun, Momma!”

I love watching her on stage

Roodepoort Dance Festival

The finish, all these gorgeously talented girls deserved this win, hands down!

Tomorrow she does her first group dance, Funky Town, at the Gauteng Dance Festival. This is also the first Festival Pixie will be dancing in!!! *EEEEEK*
