The end of Grade R

Koko finished Grade R (South Africa’s version of Kindergarten) and I got all my documentation completed on Friday. Koko is officially done with the Clonard curriculum. I’m very proud of him. We have ordered, and paid for, the Grade 1 curriculum. Once they have received Koko’s assessments and all the accompanying documentation, our Grade 1 Curriculum will be sent to us.

Until then, I’ve made him Monster Workbooks (post on that coming soon) that he will be working on in the mean time as well as additional resources pulled from the internet (Thank you Pinterest!!!) while I get reacquainted with the Grade 1 Curriculum and plan our new school year. Koko will officially start Grade 1 on 1 October 2013, which is also the start of the Provincial Schools 4th term. So we are technically 1 term ahead of main stream schooling. Our Summer/Christmas holiday will start on 4 December 2013 and we’ll start up again on 15 January 2014 (start of the Provincial School 1st term).

During this time I am also going to start Planning Fifi’s new school year. I want them to start on the same day. She’ll be starting Pre-K in October.

Pixie will still be working on Totschool activities which will be planned during this time too.

I am so so excited to get the new school year planned. I’m like a kid waiting for Christmas morning!!!

Planning for the week

Its been a while since I posted what we have planned for the week ahead, now that I have 3 “officially” schooling every day, I plan our school time together. Obviously Noo’s planning is more intense and he gets allot more time allocated to him, Koko’s is less intense, but we are building him up to having a “full” day of school (about 2 or so hours opposed to the one he currently has) and Fifi’s Tot School is essentially play based education.

Here is our planning for this week. Each child has his/her own planning sheet. I find this much easier doing it this way. I’m a list making, this works really well for us.

Planning for the rest of Gr 2

We will be going away to visit my mother and step father on their Game Farm for two weeks at the end of November/early December and I want to get all my planning done as we will still be doing school while the we are there, the bare necessities reading, maths and bible studies, so that we don’t fall behind my strict schedule. Here is my planning for the rest of the school year, including my planning for the time we are away. We will be completely finished with the Gr2 Curriculum with 14 days to spare. I’m very happy with the progress we have made this year so far.

Lesson Plans for the next three (3) weeks

We have three weeks left of our third school term of 2010. I can’t believe how quickly this year has gone by. Its been a very exciting year, with the 2010 FIFA Football World Cup here in South Africa to name just one. Here are my lesson plan outlines for the next three weeks. The last 2 weeks of the term are ouR assessment weeks. Noo will still do his reading and Theme of the Month work, but the focus of our day will be his assessments.
