Box Day

Seeing as Noo has already finished one of his maths books for the year, I decided to buy a bunch of books from a fellow homeschooler who wasn’t using them.  These arrived on Saturday.

Noo is doing so well.  He has almost finished one of his math books for the year (addition and subtraction up till 20) and is eager to start on some more challenging work.  His writing and reading skills have also improved dramatically.  The “Learn to read in 100 easy lessons” (LTR) seems to be doing its job Smileys.

Today’s math lesson. He only has 2 lessons left in this specific book then we’ll start a new Gr 1 “arithmetic” math book. I’ve decided to supplement as he is already finished with this years work Smileys

We also started getting ready for our Chicka Chicka Boom Boom activity yesterday and today. We are going to finish our preparations for it tomorrow and then work through the book on Monday.

Lesson Update: Math Guru

Noo is a maths guru. He is doing so well and is already ploughing though his maths work books.  I’m so proud of him.  He is also excelling in his reading and writing lessons, though he detests his writing skills worksheets.

We start lessons at 8:30 in the morning and finish at around 11, sometimes a little earlier depending on what the lessons entail or how quickly he grasps the concepts.

Any doubts I had about homeschooling have been well and thoroughly squashed

Today’s lesson

Today’s lesson just proves how much Noo LOVES math. He is breezing through his Gr 0 (kindergarten) math so I’ve decided to carry on with the curriculum into the Gr 1 math.  No sense in stopping if he enjoys it so much.  He is thrilled everytime he works out a sum by himself, which is 99 % of the time, and its correct.  I think its time to finish this years math and start on his Gr 1 workbooks 🙂  Noo got 93 % for his math worksheets today.  I’m so proud.

He did really well with his writing today too.  We just need to work on his phonics, letter recognition and his sounding out.

We had our first science lessons today.  Seasons.  I was shocked to realise that Noo did not know what happens during these seasons to trees.  He knows there are 4 seasons: ie Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring, but what happens during these seasons is a mystery to him 🙁
