Poppins Book Nook ~ Penguin by Polly Dunbar

In every job that must be done, there’s an element of fun ~ Mary Poppins

The first 2 weeks of July saw us on Winter break. Noo was home on school holidays so we took a break from lessons too.

This is by far the most amusingly cute and adorable story we have read to date. OMGsh, its so adorable and the kidlets love it. Koko has read it aloud numerous times and has a good giggle at the end (with a few LOL’s inbetween). I highly recommend it for little ones!

My kids just loved the penguin craft we did. It was a lovely winters day too, so they got to spend some extra time outside enjoying the warm weather. Gotto love Africa! For directions on how to make this craft, see the resources section below.

Bee Crafty Kids #1 ~ Shoe Print Penguins

Our Poppins Book Nook book this month is Penguin by Polly Dunbar and I decided that our first Bee Crafty Kids post was going to follow the same theme.

The kids absolutely loved this craft and as an added bonus, it was a lovely winter’s day outside, so we headed out there and got crafting!

Meet my wonderful co-hosts HERE

What you need:
White cardboard (1 per child)
Black paper
Yellow board
White paper
Pencil
Scissors
Glue
Eyes (2 per penguin)
1 shoe per child

Directions:

Trace the shoe of the child onto the black paper, cut it out

Paste the cut out footprint, toes down, on the white cardboard

Cut an oval out of the white paper and paste in the centre of the footprint. This is make the body of the penguin, face and belly.
Cut feet and beak out of the yellow board, paste in the appropriate places
Paste on the eyes

Even Noo joined in on the fun 🙂

We didn’t do quite as many activities as we usually do. We had a bit of a slow month. I didn’t take any photos of the activities we did do, I totally forgot *blush* Here is a photo of the themed lunch the kidlets had. The kidlets really enjoyed The Amazing Machines a Truckload of Fun with the audio CD. Koko could be found on more than one occasion reading the books to Fifi and occasionally reading the books while listening to the CD.

This month we read two books, The Dinosaur by Anna Milbourne and Where are the Dinos? by Julia Dweck.

Our May edition of NG Kids magazine arrived and they had featured Dinosaurs. How awesome was their timing?

Science: “Hatching” dinosaur eggs

Our Poppins Book Nook theme for May is Dinosaurs. My brother and his partner visited Canada in January (they are immigrating there with in the next month or so) and came back with these boxes of dinosaur “eggs” for Koko and Fifi. I put them away and totally forgot about them! I happened to stumble across them while looking for something totally unrelated to this theme, LOL.

We documented the process each morning. Unfortunately, this experiment didn’t work out as planned.

Day 1:
Prepping the recycled instant coffee bottle we are using to grow the dinosaurs. Here is the “grass” that came with the eggs
